Statement
I am interested in the space between opposites such as figure versus abstraction, contemporary versus
ancient, and Eastern versus Western. My recent work consists of a series of multi-colored linocut prints,
about the ephemeral nature of our experiences and about yin-yang. These compositions depict figures in
motion through the use of abstract elements.
Biography
A NYC based Nepali artist, Ashesh Maharjan (b. 1988) explores relationships between traditional and
contemporary art.
His work is inspired by ancient Buddhist themes such as ephemerality of all things, the middle way and yin-
yang. However, these themes are depicted through modern subjects and abstract shapes. In this way, he
not only merges the past with the present , but also bridges the gap between eastern and western art.
In 2014 he received his Bachelor's degree in Art from Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia with focus on
painting. Since moving to New York in 2017 he has taken part in various group exhibitions such as "Works
on paper" at CoreArt Space, Colorado, “Juried Show” at Prince Street Gallery and "Ephemeral Threads" at
GalleryMC, New York.
